At The Mexico Farms Airfield

The above was the most unique announcement of the forthcoming marriage of Gregory Teeter and Wilma Braun. This couple was joined together in an aviation environment in accordance with their wishes. The ceremony was performed on the north-south runway of Mexico Farms Airport. The entire wedding party arrived individually in small airplanes that departed the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport one by one, arriving in sequence as they would if the ceremony were held in a church. The first to depart runway 11 on the overlooking plateau was the younger sister of Willie, a bridesmaid dressed in a formal gown, whose pilot circled his plane low over the assembled crowd, then landed on east-west runway. The aircraft was then taxied to a designated spot and a waiting escort assisted her in exiting the aircraft and walked her to her place next to the minister’s podium. Next to arrive after circling the crowd was another sister, the Matron of Honor, who arrived in the same manner. Both of Willie sisters were lovely in their ceremonial gowns. Next to depart the hilltop airport was the best man, riding as a passenger. That aircraft again made a circle over the crowd and landed, then taxied to the ceremony site.
The next to leave the big airport was the groom, flying his own Taylorcraft. Greg Teeter also flew the same pattern over the assembled well-wishers, and after landing taxied to his designated spot. Upon leaving the T-Craft, Greg, dressed in a tuxedo, but wearing his favorite high top black tennis shoes, took his place next to the minister.
The last to arrive was the bride flying her own Piper J-3 Cub. Willie was lovely in a long wedding gown and high heel shoes (everyone wondered how she flew the Cub with the formal high heeled footwear). The wedding ceremony was short but serious and profound, and friends and relatives were elated to see Greg and Willie married in a ceremony that has to be remembered as one of the most unusual of all time. A joyous reception followed with refreshments for all. The happily married couple departed together in their own aircraft. Both dedicated aviators will long recall the camaraderie that existed on that day at the historical Mexico Farms Airport. These two aviators, now joined in marriage, jointly enjoy the exhilaration of flight and chose to emphasize their dedication by this unconventional, elegant, and enchanting ceremony. And they lived happily ever after.

Two photos from the Teeter wedding. Note the aircraft used in the ceremony in the background, and on the right the happy couple, with Greg’s tennis shoes as part of his formal attire.
